The Cadets of the Hawk Battalion finalized their JROTC accreditation inspection today for Cadet Command to maintain a national accreditation through AdvancEd, and they achieved the highest level possible; Honor Unit with Distinction (Gold Star Unit)!!! Only 20 percent of the 1700+ Army JROTC programs around the world achieve this distinction. It was a challenging process which included precision drill routines, a supply/budget inspection, Cadet electronic portfolio interviews, two PowerPoint presentations (Service Learning Project and a Continuous Improvement Project), and finally, Instructor portfolio interviews (all while battling the extra challenges we faced with Covid). This is a three-year cyclic accreditation process. Please help us congratulate our cadets as you see them!

Hello Class of 2022 and 2023.  Husson University has put out their college courses they are offering this summer and fall!  Here is the link to search!  https://www.husson.edu/course-offerings See us in Guidance for an application that should be submitted to us.  We do not have a due date yet but the sooner you get that to us the better! Just a few reminders: Students can take up to 2 courses per semester and will be responsible for the price of the book.  The courses are tuition free (some materials or lab fees may be charged to the student).  The application must be filled out asap and handed in completely to guidance.  You can use these classes to fulfill requirements here at HHS. You must carry a load of 6 credits per year to be a full time student at HHS.  Early college classes can be included in that total.  Once you are registered for the class you are completely responsible for ensuring you have logged into your accounts and stay on top of your work.  HHS does not have access to your classes or a way to monitor them.  This is an incredible opportunity to challenge yourself and expose yourself to college level classes while in HS! Please see us in Guidance for any questions!

The State of Maine has recognized March as Arts Education and Advocacy Month. Arts organizations across the country typically recognize the contributions of students in the arts during March, with events like Dance in Your Schools, Youth Art Month, Music in Our Schools, and Theatre in Our Schools. COVID-19 has had a significant impact on arts communities, limiting the way that students of the arts can make and exhibit their work, but instruction in the arts is still alive at Hermon High School! Did you know that Visual and Performing Arts is one of Maine's eight core content areas? Research has shown that all students can benefit from arts instruction, both on an academic and a social-emotional level. Participating in the arts also encourages creativity and problem-solving, critical skills needed after graduation. We typically celebrate student arts contributions during a schoolwide assembly in March at HHS, but as that isn't possible this year, take a moment to reflect on the ways that the arts have touched your life.
